Moodle Data Privacy Policy  

NIT Tiruchirappalli (hereafter refer as NITT) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the user data.

NITT uses the Moodle learning platform as part of its teaching provision for students and training activities. Moodle is an open-source project; for more about Moodle, please visit the following URL: https://docs.moodle.org/38/en/About_Moodle .

The Moodle instance used by NITT is maintained and managed on our web servers.

Please read this Privacy Notice carefully – it describes why and how we collect and utilize the user data and information.  

We don’t share any personally identifying information publicly or with third-parties.

Data that we keep about users:

Moodle logs each user activity. We will gather the following data via these logs:

·         User ID

·         Moodle Course ID

·         Timestamp of activity

·         Action type

·         Moodle object the action was on, e.g., Quiz

From these logs, Moodle generates many reports accessible to the administrators on each Moodle course.

Data security  

We have implemented appropriate security measures to prevent your data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed. 

Data retention

   We will only retain the user data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including reporting the requirements.

At the end of each academic session, a backup will be taken by the Moodle administrator, and the data will be stored and made available to the faculty users of Moodle in a read-only format (if needed)

The administrator will retain each backup for six months from the date of capture. After this period, the administrator will erase the backup.

Your rights   

Under certain circumstances, you may have the following rights

• Right to request access/ correction/ erase to your profile data; and

• Right to request the transfer of your profile data;
